Momentous Day

I used to love skirts during my high school and college years. I had three times as many skirts as I did pants and in a rainbow of colors. Something happened when I started my consulting job...suddenly, I felt that I had to wear pants/suits to be more grown up and serious. In the last 4 years, I can't recall the last time I wore a skirt to work. My skirt collection began to dwindle as I slowly donated them over the seasons. In my attempt to be more courageous and daring (rather feeble attempt...I know), here's what I wore today:

Outfit: BR skirt & vest, purple-striped Liz Claiborne shirt

Looking Spiffy

K went to a school ceremony/dinner today, wearing an outfit he had put together all by himself. I bought the shirt and tie, but he's the one who pieced it all together.

Introducing. . .Metrosexual K:

grey Brooks Brothers suit, light purple Izod shirt, dark purple tie from random cheap-o store in Qatar, Aldo shoes, big chin from mom's family.

K thinks it's a little too metrosexual to wear to conservative med interviews, though looking at the pictures, it's not that wild. . .I think he should go for it, to stand out against all the nerds!

In A Rut

I wore these navy pants and grey jacket last week, but I was in a rush today so I pulled them out again and paired them with a different top. My office clothes are so boring! But I'm afraid of wearing something too crazy since I need to be "professional." Booo.

Style Idol

Ok, I'm launching a new topic - style idol. These will be people or characters whom we admire for their style, persona or creativity when it comes to fashion sense.

My first pick is the character Chuck from Pushing Daisies. It's such a cute show and I watched it today...though I heard rumors it might get canceled :(

Pushing-Daisies

I just love Chuck's outfits! It's colorful, sweet, vintage-y and fun. Since the plot line is slightly fantasy and the show is kinda stylized, her quirky outfits fit right in.

THIS IMAGE IS STRICTLY EMBARGOED UNTIL 00:01 6th APRIL 2008 Made by Warner Bros PUSHING DAISIES: Coming soon April 2008 on ITV1 Picture shows [L-R]: Chuck [Anna Friel] Picture caption: Once upon a time, a mild-mannered boy named Ned realized he could touch dead things and bring them back to life. Now a pie maker, Ned puts his ability to good use, not only touching dead fruit and making it ripe with everlasting flavor, but working with a private investigator to crack murder cases by asking the murdered to name their killers. But the tale gets complicated, as all tales do, when Ned brings his childhood sweetheart, Chuck, back from the dead and keeps her alive. Chuck encourages him to use his power to help others, instead of merely solving mysteries and collecting the rewards. Life would be perfect for Ned and Chuck, except for one cruel twist: If he ever touches her again, she'll go back to being dead, this time for good. Mish Mash

Blue & Grey. . .and Red

I took what I wore to church this past Sunday, and added another color/layer (it's cold!). I may keep adding more layers to this outfit as the temperature keeps going down.
I got the coat from Taiwan a couple years ago - it makes people look pregnant!

Jacket & dress from Taiwan night market, UO tights, Seychelle's boots, Cynthia Rowley bag

What was I thinking, part 1

I got this jacket in Argentina years ago, and have yet to wear it. What was I thinking?! I'm trying to challenge myself to make it work though, so maybe you'll see a posting of me wearing it in the future. . .hopefully not for Halloween haha.

The funny thing is, I actually saw it on TV about a year ago! I kid you not, I saw Kyra Sedgwick wearing it on The Closer.

By the way, it took me hours just to come up with those 2 collages above. I need to take a basics photoshop class! Why can't it be as easy as Excel?

Another variation on blue & grey

Here is another take on the blue & grey combination. . .

I was going to debut my funky grey boots, but K thought they were too funky/crazy for church :)

A Fall Day

Today was a beautiful fall day - chilly and breezy...perfect for my new peacoat! It's the high-collar one from Gap that I posted about last week, I love it :)

Return of the shoe obsession (already?)

Am I having a relapse of my affinity/obsession for shoes? I came across the Solestruck online shoe store/ blog, and my eyes feasted on some lovelies :)

The fringe ones may be a little too daring for me, and the retro/modern ones may be too "me", so the finalists are the Jeffrey Campbell funky cutout/zip up ones, and the Camper boots!

On their SoleVoice blog, they have cute youtube videos showcasing some of their shoes, and they do "Looks for less" features. I also ended up finding the Jeffrey Campbell blog, which has tons of lovelies.

Maybe I should ban myself from the internet, to avoid seeing stuff I like :)

Jumping on the belted cardie train

I succumbed to the belted cardigan trend. . .

Not sure whether the pants really go with the outfit though? I'll try a dress next time.

The inspiration for my pose: I had heard about the infamous angry foot stomping, but I finally had the opportunity to experience it today. However, since I only got to hear the foot stomping, perhaps next time I'll be able to get a glimpse of it actually happening :)

Early Voting

We went to vote early today. The polling place opens at 8AM, but by the time we got there at 7:40AM there was already a huge line around the corner! It took a little over an hour to get to the voting booths. I can't imagine how long the lines will be on November 4th! I hope everyone votes :)

For today's outfit, I was inspired by a Sartorialist photo that Sasha shared awhile ago with a girl wearing blues, purples and grey. Wish I had mustard-yellow boots.

Edit: I forgot to include what I was wearing. BR jacket & pants, Gap sweater, Target patent shoes, and Botkier Sasha bag.

I Heart Argyle

Originally, I was thinking of posting all my argyle sweaters to show how much I love them...but that would be too nerdy right? I only have 7 argyle sweaters, which some might say is 6 too many...but I can't resist and want more! Since 90% of my clothes are solid colors, my argyles make up the majority of my patterned pieces (sad, I know). Haha.

Since I didn't find anything for me at BR the other day, I convinced JW to get his first argyle sweater! He also got the green pants and orange sweater pictured below.

Case of the Crazies!

Someone (not me!), had a Case of the Crazies today.

Here are some silly pictures today to go along with the COC (case of the crazies!). . .

Super Shasha with her special goggles for filtering out the crazies!
My disguise to help me hide from the crazies! Can you tell it's me?

Bows are Back?

Throughout the seasons, I see bows come and go and lately they seem to be back again. It can be kinda tricky - sometimes they make you look dowdy, other times you may look like a little girl. So here are some interesting choices of bows for both clothes and accessories!

I love the purple dress and grey coat...

Of course I couldn't resist adding the Miu Miu and Botkier satchels in the mix...

Show Me Your Badge

Hey Sasha,
Lilo and I saw this guy when we were out at lunch and asked to take his picture. Unfortunately, we only had a phone camera. Perhaps we should start our own street fashion segment...a version of the Sartorialist in ATL? LOL.

rajiv 02

Ok...just kidding. He's actually our friend and the avid male reader of our blog. But his outfit was Shopaholic Homebodies worthy.

And, to celebrate our great tennis match win this past Sunday - Lilo got me a cute and yummy gingerbread man cookie. She's awesome - thanks partner!!

Looking to Buy

Hey girls, today JW and I went shopping since I had a 25% off coupon for BR...but I came out with nothing and JW got lots - not fair! Last week, though, I did buy this shirt - but I'm not sure if I should keep it or not. There are lots of ruffles and color is actually deep eggplant, but it looks brown in the pic. What do you think - keep or return?

Picture 016

I'm also in search of a pea coat , since I had to get rid of mine last year, and some ankle boots!

Saturday musings

I was feeling grey today, and threw in some androgyny . . .

Old Navy shirt, f21 vest, 7 jeans ($10!), UO shoes

yeah - this is what happens when Shasha has to think up her own poses. Poor K had to take a pic of me.

I really like androgynous looks, especially Kate Lanphear's style (check out the link). She has some more pics on the sartorialist - I love her all black combinations.

Birthday deal @ Loehmann's . . .
Armed with a 10% birthday deal and a mystery coupon potentially worth up to $500, I attacked Loehmann's, and came out with these:

Seychelle's grey platform boots

I'm happy to say that I think I am done with my shoe obsession - thank goodness it didn't last too long! These boots stack up at 3.75 inches - I'm slightly taller than K when he is barefoot. When I wear these, K has to wear his Dansko clogs (his version of high heels).

Etsy
I was reading Dreamecho's blog, and am totally kicking myself after learning that Leanne (from Project Runway) was selling her goods on Etsy. I can't believe I missed the opportunity to buy her stuff - I bet it'll be even more expensive now! Ugh! Check out her beautiful stuff. This convinces me I should go browse Etsy more, and discover some talent before they get famous :)

Spring 2009

Just some of my favorites from the spring 2009 collections.

Lanvin had gorgeous dresses that are simple and drapey and in bold, solid colors. I just love duchesse satin - imagine how these dresses must feel like swishing down the runway. Also nice to see that pointy shoes are not yet demode.

Marni's collection reminds me of a little girl playing dress up with vintage pieces. Love the mixing of patterns - from circles to stripes to geometrics.
